Midfielders

Christian Atsu

Christian Atsu is one of those players who is proud to play for Newcastle United, but he simply lacks the quality to be a meaningful player in the Premier League. The Ghanaian international provides the Magpies with a boost of energy off the bench, but struggles with inconsistency.

Atsu does well when it comes to taking on defenders and breaking free down the wing, but his final output in terms of goals and assists has been poor. Atsu has played in 74 Premier League games for Newcastle United, but only has three goals and five assists to his name. Newcastle United purchased Atsu for £6m and they could still get the same value for him if they opt to sell this summer.

Henri Saivet

Henri Saivet is a talented midfielder who has shown flashes of individual brilliance, but he has struggled to find his place at Newcastle United. The Senegalese international signed a five-and-a-half year deal at Newcastle United in 2016, but he has only made five Premier League appearances for the club.

Saivet has been loaned out three times, and he currently only trains with the Magpies’ first team due to not being named to the final squad list for the 2019-20 campaign. There is not much more to say in this case. Saivet should be sold this summer.

Jacob Murphy

Jacob Murphy is another player who did not make the final squad list this summer, but he was fortunate to secure a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday. Murphy was an exciting prospect when he joined Newcastle United in 2017, but his impact on the team has been minimal.

Rafa Benitez gave the winger many chances to showcase his talent, but it quickly became clear that Murphy is not a Premier League player. His blistering pace on the wing is a joy to watch, but aside from that trait there is not much more to praise. That being said, Murphy should be added to the transfer list.

Jack Colback (contract expiring)

Last, but not least, we have the case of Jack Colback. Steve Bruce gave Colback a few chances to audition for a place among the first team in preseason friendlies, but he decided to give Ki Sung Yueng the final spot as a defensive midfielder. Colback’s contract will expire at the end of this season and Newcastle United should just let the process play out and let him walk for free.
