Newcastle United are getting set to face a familiar foe tomorrow in the FA Cup.

After a scoreless draw vs. Burnley over the weekend in Premier League action, Newcastle United will have a quick turnaround as they face West Bromwich Albion tomorrow in the FA Cup. Despite the Baggies being a division lower than the Magpies, the clubs have some lengthy history against one another.

The first matchup between the two clubs came back in the 1800s, with four matches coming before 1900. Newcastle won that first-ever match in League Divison One, 3-0. From 1912 to 1920, West Brom dominated NUFC with a 12-match unbeaten streak.

Newcastle United had two streaks of six unbeaten matches in the 1940s and 1970s. But, West Brom has the all-time series lead with 49 wins, 47 losses, and 34 draws.

Since the arrival of the Premier League, Newcastle United have enjoyed the better form. In 22 matches, the Magpies have won 11, lost five, and drew six times. But, they only have one win in their last five.

The clubs have met four times in the FA Cup before. During the 1937-38 tournament, West Brom snuck past NUFC in the 3rd round, 1-0. In 1954, they played in the 5th round with West Brom winning 3-2. The Baggies would go on to win the competition over Preston North End in the final. Newcastle United hammered West Brom 3-0 in a 1974 5th round match, in a year that saw the Magpies get to the final only to lose to the brace-scoring Kevin Keegan and Liverpool. In their most recent FA Cup match, West Brom took a 4-2 win in the 2009-10 competition. Andy Carroll provided a brace for NUFC in the loss.
