With little production from their strikers, Newcastle United should do everything they can to bring in Paco Alcacer.

Newcastle United have two exciting players on the wing, depth in the midfield, a steady backline, and a star goalkeeper. Their main position of weakness this season and for a good chunk of the last few years has been at striker. Over the weekend, the Sun and others reports linked the Magpies with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s striker Paco Alcacer. The club should do everything in their power to bring the target man to Tyneside.

The 26-year-old striker has five goals in 11 Bundesliga matches for Dortmund this season, which comes after scoring 18 goals in 26 league appearances last year. He played for Dortmund on loan from Barcelona first before joining the club on a permanent deal in 2019. The Spaniard made a name for himself at Valencia, where he scored more than 40 goals beginning in 2010 for the first team before his big-money move to Barcelona.

Alcacer would bring a proven track record of goalscoring in two of the world’s top leagues. A few inches shorter than Joelinton, Paco has good pace and an uncanny ability to find himself in the right area in the box. He can score as a poacher, just tapping in close efforts, or with shots from outside the area.

With Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin playing outside with him in the attack, he would be able to convert when they make their long runs and play the ball to the middle. His ability is built perfectly for the counter-attacking style that the Magpies largely rely on.

He would get the chance to play consistent minutes on a team that desperately needs his skill and can showcase his form ahead of the 2020 Euros. He’s scored three goals and registered one assist in the qualifying for this summer’s tournament. If Newcastle United can get him in the building, on a loan with or without a permanent option, they will be acquiring just the player they’ve needed at striker.
