Rose would be a perfect replacement for Willems at Newcastle
Newcastle United could replace Jetro Willems with Spurs’ Danny Rose this month.
Jetro Willems has been impressive on loan for Newcastle United at left wing-back. Signing him on a permanent deal seemed like a no-brainer before his season was ended by a ruptured ACL. The club could still decide to make that move and that would not be a bad decision, but there could be another perfect option presenting itself in the next week.
In recent days, Newcastle United have been linked more and more with Tottenham’s Danny Rose. The 29-year-old left back has not appeared in recent matches for Jose Mourinho’s side and he only has 12 Premier League appearances this season. Spurs are rumored to be open to moving him to Newcastle, but he’s previously stated he won’t be leaving. With an immediate opportunity and a chance to keep his reputation and form up, Rose would be wise to take a loan move to Newcastle United.
The England national team player has nearly 200 Premier League appearances in his career and he would bring stability and quality to a position that will be relying on either an out-of-position Matt Ritchie, a returning from injury Paul Dummett, or another player they add. Rose has two assists in the Champions League this season and would help provide service out wide similar to, and likely better than, Willems.
There’s a very slim chance they can secure him on a permanent deal, but his presence would be crucial down the stretch the rest of this season with Willems out. Newcastle United should put out a full press on Rose and his agent to convince him to make a move to St. James’ Park for the rest of the season.
