Halfway through the month, Newcastle United still have not made any signings in the January transfer window.

With Newcastle United sitting 13th on the Premier League table, there’s some sense of urgency for them to strengthen the squad during this month’s transfer window. As we sit here on January 16th, the club has not signed any players on full transfers or loan deals. But, it shouldn’t be a cause for panic if they don’t sign anyone this month.

I think Newcastle United should add talent, but if they don’t, there shouldn’t be doom and gloom surrounding Tyneside. There have been links to Ademola Lookman, Olivier Giroud, and some other attacking players, but none of them have seemed too close to being completed.

With the large number of injuries, Newcastle United could use the depth with new faces. But, they will also get players back and those returns could almost feel like some new signings. What positions are desperate for an upgrade? Striker, obviously. But, if Joelinton can get his confidence going after his goal vs. Rochdale, that would be a huge boost. Outside of up top, there aren’t a lot of dire positions of need for Newcastle in this window where less business is done. The backline has quality and depth across it. The deepest position is the central midfield and the two players on the wing, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron, are locked in the lineup along with Martin Dubravka.

If Steve Bruce and the Magpies can come up with a deal, there is room to improve his squad. But, with no deal imminent, I am not worried about the Magpies if they don’t get anyone in this January.
