With Miguel Almiron getting into good form for Newcastle United, Allan Saint-Maximin will be even more dangerous when he returns.

Throughout this season, Allan Saint-Maximin has been the best attacking player for Newcastle United. While his production has not been great, he’s a game-changer on the break with his pace and skill on the ball. Opposite him, Miguel Almiron has been providing a high work rate all season and now he’s adding the goals. That will only make the eventual injury return of Saint-Maximin more dangerous for the Newcastle attack.

Both players have such great pace and there were times earlier this season when ASM would make a run on the break and played the ball to Almiron, who couldn’t convert. There were also moments when Miggy would make the wrong decision in the final moment, wasting a lung-busting run from the French winger. Now,  Almiron’s playing with great confidence and decisiveness on the wing. His recent goalscoring run will force defenders to close out more aggressively to the Paraguayan, leaving more space for Saint-Maximin. When they are both in-form, they can slice the ball across the face of goal to one another and combine in the final moments.

There are not many teams outside of the Premier League’s elite with a more dangerous wide tandem than Newcastle with Almiron and Saint-Maximin. Liverpool, Manchester City, and who else? The two wingers have match-altering ability in a system that isn’t built for a lot of attacking action. The lack of production from the number nine position can be overcome by combining the in-form, explosive duo. That will make for a dangerous counter-attack for a Newcastle United side that often relies on scoring on the break.
