Newcastle United came away with a point from their match at Wolves. We look at how each player performed.

After three straight losses in the Premier League, Newcastle United finally got back on track with a road draw vs. Wolves. We look at how each player performed in the 1-1 result.

Top for the Toon (Overall a great performance)

Miguel Almiron: The Paraguayan provided the only goal for Newcastle United, was the most lively player going forward, and he gave his full energy and attention defensively as well.

Martin Dubravka: You can’t say enough about his excellent saves today vs. Wolves. He kept Wolves out from close-range on multiple occasions and was a key figure in getting the draw.

Solid Showing (Solid performance but lacking something)

Matty Longstaff: He brought good energy and aggressiveness to the midfield. There wasn’t a lot for him going forward, but he did well in another start.

Jetro Willems: Marking Adama Traore is never fun and Jetro Willems faired as well as you can hope against his pace.

Next. Signing Babel would be low risk and high reward for NUFC. dark

Mediocre Magpies (Disappointing display)

Federico Fernandez: He was the worst player on the day for me. He wasn’t assertive enough in his closing down on attacking players, including giving too much space on the only goal for Wolves.

Sean Longstaff: The elder Longstaff lacked his brother’s energy for a lot of the day and his delivery from set pieces and long passes was poor.

Joelinton: Another match where the Newcastle United number nine made very little impact.

Christian Atsu: He came on to replace Dwight Gayle and his limited moments were not great. He was called offside on a long pass from Jetro and he couldn’t control a decent pass from Andy Carroll in one of NUFC’s final attacking plays.

Andy Carroll: In his return from injury, he didn’t stay centrally enough, was reckless on a 50/50 ball earning a foul, and was too slow to get on the end of a late Matty Longstaff pass.

N/A for NUFC (Not good, not bad, not applicable)

Dwight Gayle: He was really good on the Almiron goal, chesting the ball to Jetro, getting it back, and assisting on the finish. But, his appearance was cut way short by injury.

Florian Lejeune: He had to come on to replace Paul Dummett and while I was nervous after his recent form, he stepped in at an acceptable level but should have maybe won the ball on the corner for Wolves’ goal.

Isaac Hayden: Playing well out of position as a right wing-back, Hayden was serviceable.

Ciaran Clark: It’s usually good if you don’t notice a central defender too often and that’s exactly how today went for Clark.

Paul Dummett: A brief cameo for Dummett before another injury took him out.
