We look at the top three Newcastle United matches on Boxing Day from 2010-2019.

Boxing Day is always a big day for soccer in the Premier League. Yesterday, Newcastle United were battered by Manchester United at Old Trafford on the last Boxing Day of the 2010s. We look back at the three best NUFC matches on the British holiday from this decade.

#3: Boxing Day, 2012. Manchester United 4, Newcastle United 3

Honestly, Newcastle United only won two Boxing Day matches from 2010-2019, so the options were limited here.

But, this was at least an entertaining loss. Papiss Cisse had the Magpies up 3-2 before two Red Devils’ goals gave Manchester United a win during a Boxing Day shootout.

#2: Boxing Day, 2011. Newcastle United 2, Bolton Wanderers 0

During the 2011-12 Premier League season, Newcastle United would achieve a surprise 5th place finish. That season, they secured a 2-0 victory on the road in Boxing Day action. Hatem Ben Arfa scored in the 69th minute, shortly followed by a goal from Demba Ba.

Yes, the Wanderers would get relegated that season after finishing 18th. But, it was still a clean sheet win away from home for Alan Pardew’s side. The Magpies would out-shoot and out-possess Bolton at the arena formerly known as Reebok Stadium.

#1: Boxing Day, 2013. Newcastle United 5, Stoke City 1

Stoke City scored around the half-hour mark at St. James’ Park. That was the end of the good times for the Potters on that day in 2013. Glenn Whelan was shown his second yellow card in the 40th minute before Marc Wilson earned a straight red card.

With a two-man advantage, Newcastle United flipped the script in a big way. Loic Remy scored a brace with a Yoan Gouffran goal sandwiched in between. Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse added one goal apiece to give the Magpies a blowout 5-1 win.
