Newcastle United and Arsenal put on quite the show on February 5th, 2011 as the Magpies produced one of the most amazing comebacks the Premier League has ever seen. Down 4-0 at halftime, Alan Pardew’s men fought back to score four goals in 19 minutes to claim the most impressive point ever earned on Tyneside.

The first half was a nightmare for Newcastle United. Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the lead in the first minute of action and more misery came when Johan Djourou and Rob Van Persie scored two additional goals in the opening ten minutes. Van Persie got on the scoresheet once again 15 minutes later to give a high-flying Arsenal side a 4-0 lead before the half hour mark.

Newcastle United walked into the tunnel with their heads down, but they returned to the pitch full of determination. The score remained 4-0 until Joey Barton’s penalty in the 68th minute cut the deficit to three goals. Seven minutes later, Leon Best joined the scoring party and put Newcastle United back in the game with 15 minutes left on the clock.

In the 83rd minute, Newcastle United scored from the penalty spot once again and Barton claimed his second goal of the evening. The roof was lifted off St. James’ Park in the 87th minute after the late Cheik Tiote fired in a wonderful volley from 25 yards out to make it 4-4. Tiote’s goal completed what will go down as the most thrilling comeback of the decade for Newcastle United, and one of the most memorable comebacks in all of English football.
