January is right around the corner and Newcastle United need to bring someone in to end their scoring woes up top.

Newcastle United are known for pursuing players through loan deals and they need to revert to their old habits in January. The Magpies’ front three has only managed to score two goals this season and the team has only scored 17 goals in 17 games, which is the third lowest tally in the Premier League.

Joelinton clearly lacks confidence and is struggling to adapt to English football. Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto are not able to serve as primary strikers for the club due to lack of overall skills and issues with their fitness. This is why Newcastle United desperately need to loan in at least one striker next month. That being said, two strikers who would be available and could have an impact are Michy Batshuayi (Chelsea) and Cenk Tosun (Everton).

Michy Batshuayi

Michy Batshuayi has tried to earn regular minutes at Chelsea for a few seasons now, but the Belgian striker has not fulfilled his objective. Batshuayi was loaned out to Crystal Palace in January last season and he had an immediate impact with five goals in 11 appearances.

This season, Batshuayi has made 11 appearances for Chelsea, all of them as a substitute, and has only scored one goal as a result of playing limited minutes. Chelsea’s front-line is stacked with talent and Tammy Abraham’s current form, 11 goals in 16 games, is making it all the more difficult for Batshuayi to have a meaningful role at Stamford Bridge.

At 26, Batshuayi is in his prime and he is eager to make a name for himself. At the international level, Batshuayi has been called up to play for Belgium 16 times over the last two years and has scored 11 goals for his country in that time period.

Newcastle United need a player with his experience and proven clinical ability in front of goal. Newcastle United have completed loan deals with Chelsea in the past, so this deal could happen if the Magpies decide to pursue Batshuayi in January.

Cenk Tosun

Everton spent £27m to secure the services of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas in January of 2018, but the Turkish international has not lived up to the hype that initially surrounded him. Tosun has made 43 Premier League appearances for Everton, but has only scored nine goals in the process. Tosun’s first few months on Mersyside marked his most successful time with club as he scored five goals in 14 games.

The Turkish striker had a forgettable 2018-19 campaign that saw him take the field 25 times, but he only found the back of the net on three occasions. This season, Tosun has only made four appearances, two as a substitute, and has one goal to his name.

Marco Silva, who was recently sacked, kept Tosun in the shadows, so it will be interesting to see if Tosun will build new confidence and experience a resurgence when a permanent replacement for Silva is brought in. If Tosun continues to ride the bench, though, he might be intrigued by the idea of more playing time at Newcastle United if the opportunity presents itself.
