Steve Bruce wants Newcastle United to sign Jarrod Bowen from Hull City in January and the club should listen to his recommendation.

Newcastle United were linked with Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen in the summer, but the club’s front office decided to secure the services of Allan Saint-Maximin instead. Steve Bruce is thrilled with the way Saint-Maximin has been playing, but he is still determined to bring Bowen on Tyneside.  The Magpies now have another chance to sign the 22-year-old striker who continues to perform at an elite level in the Championship.

Bowen’s form has improved in every season with Hull City and he is on track to enjoy the best season of his young career. In 2017, Bowen scored 14 goals in 42 games, but he followed that impressive campaign with 22 goals in 46 games in 2018. This season, the young striker has already found the back of the net on nine occasions in 16 games.

One thing is for certain, Bowen is a top player in the second tier of English football, but can he perform for Newcastle United in the Premier League? No one can really answer that question, but seeing how well Bowen is playing at the age of 22, he is definitely worthy of an opportunity to showcase his talent at St. James’ Park.

Hull City’s asking price for Bowen is around £20m. That is a high price to pay for a player coming from the second division, but look at what paying £5m and £9m got us in the past: Joselu and Yoshinori Muto, two players who scored a combined total of five goals.

Like most fans, I am confident that Joelinton will turn things around and score more goals now that Bruce has implemented an attacking style of play. That being said, though, the Magpies cannot rely on Joelinton to carry the burden of the offense on his shoulders alone. Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto will most likely be sold in January, and Andy Carroll will be lucky to score a few goals this season.

In my opinion, Bowen would be an upgrade to the three strikers that are behind Joelinton. He would also add even more potential to a squad booming with young talent under the age of 25. Bowen would have a lot to prove in the top flight, but based on his stellar and consistent form with Hull City he should have what it takes to cause some problems in the Premier League.
