Granit Xhaka is open to signing for Newcastle United

Granit Xhaka’s days in London appear to be numbered after a new report claims he is open to joining Newcastle United in January.
When the rumor broke that Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on Granit Xhaka’s situation at Arsenal, I was quick to express my opinion that the front office is making the right move to pursue Xhaka in January. A new report that was published yesterday has provided fans with a new perspective from the player himself.
According to this report, the Swiss international is open to signing for Newcastle United in January, however, the Magpies face tough competition from Italian and German giants AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund for his signature.
When compared to AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United look like small fish in a big pond, but there are three reasons why choosing the Magpies over the aforementioned clubs makes perfect sense for Xhaka.
Why Xhaka Should Choose Newcastle United
Firstly, signing for Newcastle United would present the 27-year-old with a new opportunity to play in the Premier League. Most top players dream about playing in England’s top division, and although Newcastle United are not considered an elite team at the moment, there is a lot of quality and potential within this squad. It is also worth mentioning that playing in front of the Toon Army is a unique feeling because of their fervent support for the team.
Secondly, Xhaka would find his close friend and national teammate Fabian Schar on Tyneside. A new report has indicated that Schar is actually acting as a recruiter for the club at the moment. Schar wants Xhaka to sign for Newcastle United and he has been telling the Arsenal midfielder that the city and the club are great.
Thirdly, Steve Bruce acknowledges Xhaka’s talent and he wants him at St. James’ Park. Players take several things into account when they decide what their next career move will be and one of the key things they consider is how they fit into the manager’s plans. Bruce has expressed his desire to see Xhaka in a black and white jersey and this feeling of being wanted should sit well with the Swiss international.
Time will tell just how serious Newcastle United are in their pursuit of Granit Xhaka, but the potential for a move to St. James’ Park is there. Xhaka has an important decision to make, but he could be a top player at Newcastle United and he would find a familiar face in the locker room.
