When the transfer window opens in January, Newcastle United should consider signing Atlanta United star Josef Martinez.

Newcastle United have only scored three goals in their four Premier League matches this season. With Joelinton getting more familiar with the league, the squad will become more dangerous in the attack. But, should the Magpies consider bringing in another striker with history with one of their key attacking players and a record-breaking run to juice up the offensive options?

Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez is on one of the greatest goalscoring runs in soccer history. He’s scored in 13 straight Major League Soccer matches and has 23 goals in 25 league matches this season after he broke the single-season record with 31 in 34 matches in 2018. Some of those goals last year were assisted by Miguel Almiron, who had 13 assists in his final MLS season before moving to Newcastle United. They were an electric duo and won the MLS Cup in the club’s second season ever. Could reuniting the players help Miggy get his groove going on Tyneside?

Joelinton will remain the starting striker for Steve Bruce after his big-money move this summer, but Martinez could factor into the plans playing alongside him up top or take over the supporting striker position below him, like Ayoze Perez partnered with another Venezuelan striker, Salomon Rondon. With his pace, movement, and dribbling ability, he could play well behind Joelinton. If you plug Martinez into the lineup, his previously successful bond with Almiron can absolutely help both players.

Martinez has previous experience in a top European league, but his time in Serie A with Torino was not a successful one. But, he would now be coming off a torrid run of 73 goals in 79 league matches, with more to come before the end of the season.
