Newcastle United will be looking to claim their second consecutive victory tomorrow when they face Watford.

Premier League football returns to St. James’ Park after two weeks on the road at Norwich and London. Newcastle United will host Watford tomorrow and this game should have it all. The Magpies are coming off an impressive victory against Tottenham, but the Hornets are in the league basement with zero points.

The pressure is building up for Javi Gracia after this poor start, especially since he has some quality players in his squad. The pressure is temporarily off Steve Bruce’s shoulders after last weekend’s win, but can the Toon use this confidence to build some momentum and develop consistency?

What to Expect

One thing is for certain, Watford will try to take the game to Newcastle United as soon as the whistle blows. Watford are the most desperate team in the Premier League and they perceive tomorrow’s clash as a must-win game, especially since their next opponents will be Arsenal and Manchester City. Gracia’s side have been attacking in every game and they are averaging 14 shots attempts per game, but their lack of precision is a major problem. In total, Watford have taken 42 shots in their first three games, but only eight attempts have been on target.

Newcastle United are yet to find their stride offensively this season, too, as they have been heavily dependent on the counter-attack. As a result of only averaging 31% possession, Newcastle United have struggled to create several chances in games, but that could change tomorrow.

Both teams will look to frequently send bodies forward. Miguel Almiron and Joelinton could have big games against a Watford side that has conceded seven goals so far this season, but they need proper delivery from midfield. The Magpies’ back-line will be under constant pressure tomorrow, but if they can stay as compact as they were last weekend, then I cannot see Watford scoring a goal. The key players to watch for tomorrow will be Joelinton, Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka for Newcastle United, and Abdoulaye Doucoure, Will Hughes and Gerard Deulofeu for Watford.
