Newcastle United were comfortably dealt with by Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Playing against a newly promoted Norwich City side, Newcastle United looked the worse side as they were dominated in possession and dropped a 3-1 result. Teemu Pukki scored a hat trick and Jonjo Shelvey tallied for Newcastle in the waning moments.

Top Toons

Isaac Hayden: Especially in the first half, he was the best player on the pitch for the visitors. He did well to get out to the right flank and push the ball forward. He set Joelinton up with a picture-perfect cross.

Jonjo Shelvey: The mercurial midfielder scored the first goal of the season for Newcastle United and was decent in distribution.

Sean Longstaff: He added some life to the Newcastle United midfield as a substitute and provided the assist on Shelvey’s goal.

Mediocre Magpies

Joelinton: The striker was poor in his second EPL match with the Magpies. He had a glaring miss on a first-half header and was muscled off the ball too many times. A knock to his hip only made his impact lessen in the second half before he requested to come off.

Miguel Almiron: While he hasn’t tallied a goal or assist in his NUFC career, Miggy typically changes the game with his pace and dribbling. But against Norwich, his impact was minimal outside of a couple of fouls drawn.

Emil Krafth: He was the closest player to Teemu Pukki on all three of his goals and the new right-back did not take away enough space, especially on goals two and three. He also had a good chance himself early on but blasted the bar over the box.

Quick Kicks

  • If we’re being honest, Newcastle United looked like the newly-promoted side in this match. Norwich City bossed the match and left the Magpies hoping for scarce counter-attack chances.
  • Outside of Matt Ritchie and Isaac Hayden, occasionally Jamaal Lascelles, there was not a ton of energy on the pitch for Newcastle United. That is partially on Steve Bruce to motivate his players, but it’s primarily on those players to put more pride in their performances.
  • With Joelinton suffering a knock to his right hip in the second half, the striking options will be limited for Newcastle United.
  • I’m not sure if it was a fitness decision, but Ki did not play well in place of Sean Longstaff. The latter came on in the second half and brought some urgency.

Next. These players should sit in the Carabao Cup. dark
