Steve Bruce and his players need a win on Saturday to calm their nerves and properly settle into the new season.

Steve Bruce and his players look calm in front of the media and they say all the right things, but deep down we all know they feel enormous pressure to get their first win of the season. Newcastle United is a completely different team with a new manager and new roster. Logical fans are being patient and understand that it will take some time for this team to develop chemistry and earn positive results.

Most fans, however, are making this transition more difficult than it has to be. Bruce is aware of the doubt surrounding him and he, more than anyone, needs three points against Norwich City. The Magpies will continue feeling the pressure to perform until they claim their first victory. Obviously, the pressure to perform will be there all season, but getting that first win will be crucial for the team’s confidence and morale. It would also help some fans settle down and give Bruce the chance he deserves with his new team. We have to remember that he’s only been in charge for four weeks and multiple new signings walked through the doors just a few days before the season began.

A victory against Norwich City would show fans that Bruce’s style of play can work in the Premier League, that the players believe in his philosophy and that this team can get the job done against inferior opponents. Newcastle United’s new signings need this victory just as much as Bruce does.

The club spent large sums of money on two players in particular – Joelinton (£40M) and Allan Saint-Maximin (£16.5M) – and they, too, want to prove that they were worth the investment. Joelinton has looked good since joining the Toon and Saint-Maximin has generated excitement among fans every time he’s been on the pitch. This duo has plenty of talent and potential to be future stars for Newcastle United, but they need to stay calm and take things game by game. The same advice can be applied to Miguel Almiron who is desperate for scoring his first goal with the club.

Norwich City will provide the attacking trio with a great opportunity to have major impacts that could deliver all three points for the Toon. For now, though, fans should stay calm and support the team. It is a transition period for the club, but one win, especially before the schedule becomes much more difficult, can be quite significant going forward.
