After a loss to Preston North End, Newcastle United will quickly turn around and face Hibernian tomorrow.

Newcastle United dropped a 2-1 friendly to Preston North End on Saturday in Steve Bruce’s first match on the touchline for the Magpies. Next up, they face Hibernian of the Scottish Premiership. We take a look at three NUFC players that we will be most interested in during the matchup.

Javier Manquillo

Typically, DeAndre Yedlin has been a near-lock as the starting right back or right wing-back. But, Manquillo has looked good this preseason, following up on a solid campaign last season. Could he take the position from the speedy American? Let’s see if he can keep his good form going tomorrow.

Matthew Longstaff

It would be surprising to see the younger Longstaff earn a first-team roster spot alongside his brother, but he’s played well and is bringing a lot of energy in these preseason fixtures. If he keeps performing and impacting the match, it will at least make Newcastle United and Steve Bruce think long and hard about keeping him with the senior squad.

Joelinton

He made his debut for the Magpies vs. Preston and it was an interesting one. He drew a foul for a penalty (that Almiron didn’t convert), found the back of the net but was waved off due to a foul, then fouled in the area to concede the match-losing penalty. It will be interesting to see him continue to get comfortable with his teammates and potentially get more match time.

Other players to watch: Jacob Murphy, Elias Sorensen, and Ki.
