3 reasons for Newcastle fans to be excited about Joelinton
By Durim Halimi
Newcastle United have smashed their transfer record by £19m after spending big on Joelinton.
After months of speculation and rumors, Newcastle United finally got their man in Joelinton. The Magpies splashed the cash, around £40m, to complete the transfer of the 22-year-old Brazilian striker from Hoffenheim. This is the second time this year that Mike Ashley sanctioned moves that broke the club’s transfer record. The business tycoon spent £21m on Miguel Almiron in January and invested £19m more than Almiron’s fee to bring Joelinton to Tyneside this week.
Some fans are impressed with this signing, but others are skeptical and perceive Joelinton as a gamble. The young striker has a lot to prove, but he has the potential to be a standout player in the Premier League. Here are three reasons why the Toon Army should be excited about this massive signing.
Young Talent
Only 22, time is definitely on Joelinton’s side and the club can get some solid production out of him on the front-line just like they did with Ayoze Perez for the past five seasons. At such a young age, Joelinton displayed maturity and a good work ethic while playing in the Bundesliga last term. More importantly, he is eager to improve every season and he has made it clear that his ultimate objective is to earn a spot on Brazil’s national team. That mentality is exactly what the Magpies need from their younger players.
Dynamic Striker
Joelinton is the perfect replacement for Salomon Rondon because he boasts strength, shooting precision and good vision to set up his teammates. He is a right-footed striker, but can create chances with both feet, he likes to strike the ball from distance and he can be dangerous in the air. All of these attributes were on display at Hoffenheim last season and enabled him score 11 goals while bagging nine assists in 35 matches. In other words, Joelinton was directly involved in 25% of Hoffenheim’s goals last season.
Almiron Partnership
A major reason why fans should be excited about Joelinton’s move to Newcastle United is because of his partnership with Miguel Almiron. Knowing what we know about Steve Bruce’s tactics, the Magpies will most likely be lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Almiron positioned right behind Joelinton up top. Both players will look to set each other up for big plays and they have the potential to become one of the most exciting and youngest attacking duos in the Premier League.
