Newcastle United can hand the title to Manchester City if they manage to upset Liverpool at St. James’ Park tomorrow.

Newcastle United will play their final home game of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign tomorrow when they host Liverpool. The Reds may be coming off a 3-0 loss against Barcelona in the Champions League, but they have only lost one game in the Premier League this season. The Magpies are not as fortunate, but they have secured their safety and are enjoying their football at the moment after earning seven points from their last three games.

Liverpool enter this match as heavy favorites, especially after they defeated Newcastle by a difference of four goals at Anfield earlier this season. Jurgen Klopp’s side need all three points if they want a chance at winning their first title since 1989. The Magpies will look to spoil that party, and they are capable of causing an upset, just ask Manchester City.

What to Expect

For starters, every Newcastle fan would be wise to take a close look at the Magpies’ bench. Tomorrow could very well mark Rafa Benitez’s final game with Newcastle at St. James’ Park. As a result, expect the Toon Army to be vocal and put on a display to persuade the Spaniard to sign a new contract.

In terms of the game itself, Liverpool will look to set the tone and pace of the game from the opening whistle. They are the favorites to win, but they are also desperate to win, so the Reds will apply pressure for 90 minutes. Newcastle’s back-line will work overtime tomorrow, but aggressive midfielders like Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey will come to their assistance.

This game would have been more interesting with Miguel Almiron up top alongside Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez, but the Magpies will still look to attack down the wing when the opportunity presents itself. More specifically, Newcastle will look to avoid Virgil van Dijk by attacking down the opposite flank.

Sticking with the topic of attacking, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have scored a combined total of 41 goals for Liverpool, which is five more goals than Newcastle have scored all season. That being said, the key to earning a positive result is not stopping one striker, but both of them.

The pressure to perform, though, will rest on the shoulders of Liverpool as they are the team chasing the title. If Liverpool fail to claim all three points on Tyneside tomorrow, they can surely kiss their chances of winning the title good-bye.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool
