Newcastle aim to complete Rafa’s deal in two weeks

Now that Newcastle United have secured their Premier League status, the club want to seal the deal with Rafa Benitez.
After defeating Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last Friday, Newcastle United have maintained their Premier League status heading for next season. The Magpies currently sit 15th in the table with 38 points, but their point total could rise to 47 by mid-May thanks to a favorable schedule to conclude the season. Now that relegation is no longer a concern for the Toon, a new report out of Tyneside claims that the club is eager to finalize an agreement with Rafa Benitez over the next two weeks.
In his post-match interview on Friday, Benitez told pundits that he is solely focused on signing a contract with Newcastle despite interest from other clubs. The Spaniard also went on to say that he sees the “massive” potential in the club, but stressed the need for more investment to compete with the elite squads of England for a spot in a European competition.
Mike Ashley is also reportedly keen on signing Benitez this summer. Several reports came out linking Newcastle to managers like Lyon’s current manager Bruno Genesio and former Benfica manager Jorge Jesus, but Ashley is determined to get Benitez’s signature.
Complete the Deal
For those who are aware of the circumstances that Benitez had to work with, specifically the lack of financial support in transfer windows, it is fair to say that the Spaniard has been very successful on Tyneside. He brought the Magpies back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, earned a top ten finish last season and managed to avoid relegation once more with bargain transfers.
Newcastle would be wise to meet Benitez’s demands. He is a master tactician with a proven track record in Spain, England and Italy. Moreover, the club’s executives should also worry about the number of players who would put in transfer requests if Benitez leaves. Benitez deserves a new contract and more support going forward. Newcastle is often recognized as a sleeping giant and this summer is the perfect time for the alarm clock to go off.
