Kenedy was a hit at Newcastle United last season, but he was missing in action for the club this term.

According to a new report from Tyneside, Newcastle United will not pursue a permanent deal for Kenedy this summer. After an amazing five-month stint with the Magpies last season, Kenedy has fallen off the radar in the 2018-19 campaign. The Brazilian winger is extremely talented and he had a bright future with the Toon, but his poor form and work ethic are the reasons why the club will send him back to Chelsea in May.

The Brazilian has made 23 appearances for Newcastle this season and has only managed to score one goal and complete one assist. Rafa Benitez has given the 23-year-old midfielder plenty of chances to redeem himself, but it is fair to say that Kenedy was the biggest disappointment of the season.

The Right Decision

Kenedy caught all the headlines in his debut  against Burnley last season as he created several chances and even hit the post from distance. Then came his amazing performance against Southampton when the Brazilian scored a brace at St. James’ Park to secure a much-needed 3-0 victory. Overall, Kenedy was a top player for Newcastle last season, but his form took a major dive this term. So, what went wrong?

There is no easy explanation for his disappointing form, but a mix of arrogance and bitterness are, in my opinion, the key reasons why Kenedy has failed to maintain his standards from last season. The arrogance comes from knowing how badly Newcastle wanted him back and this desperation has noticeably sparked a large ego. The bitterness comes from the fact that he was not included in Chelsea’s plans yet again despite Antonio Conte’s departure.

It is unfortunate to see Kenedy struggle as much as he did this season, but it did not have to be this way. Kenedy could have been a top player for the Toon once again, and it would have been interesting to see how well an in-form Kenedy would have played opposite of Miguel Almiron. In the end, though, Newcastle are making the right decision by cutting ties with Kenedy.
