Newcastle United snagged a late equalizer to draw on the road vs. Bournemouth.

In a windy matchup, the scoreline swayed back and forth. Newcastle United scored a goal at the end of each half, sandwiched around two Bournemouth goals. Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie tallied for the Magpies in the draw.

Top Toons

Salomon Rondon: The Venezuelan buried a lovely free kick right before the half. Before and after that, he worked tirelessly to win the ball in the air and move into promising positions in the box for crosses.

DeAndre Yedlin: The American’s last-minute cross assisted Matt Ritchie’s equalizer. He did well to find himself in the right spot for Newcastle’s attack. His pace also came in handy to snuff out a few chances for Bournemouth to break.

Mediocre Magpies

Federico Fernandez: While it was a questionable penalty, his foul gave Bournemouth their goal from the spot. He also had a few minor miscues that led to some nervy moments.

Quick Kicks

  • Something that may get lost regarding the Rondon goal was how it was set up. After a corner kick for Bournemouth with very little time left in stoppage time, Miguel Almiron picked up the ball in his own half and took on three defenders and earned a free kick just outside the Bournemouth penalty area.
  • Isaac Hayden and Mohamed Diame are always guaranteed to make it a physical battle in the midfield. Today, they were unafraid of sliding in for some rough challenges.
  • It does not get much closer than Paul Dummett’s goal-line clearance. My goodness, my heart dropped before the bright-haired beauty knocked it away.
  • Christian Atsu was a sparkplug off the bench again. He earned a free kick late and found his way into the Bournemouth penalty area on a few occasions.
  • While I wish it was called, I don’t think it was a back pass to the Bournemouth keeper shortly into stoppage time. The passer looked surprised that it didn’t go behind goal and went to the keeper.
  • Matt Ritchie’s goal was massive and made up for some poor deliveries throughout the match. What a freaking volley!
