Newcastle United will look to extend their winning streak to three matches when they face Tottenham tomorrow at Wembley Stadium.
After defeating Cardiff City (3-0) and Manchester City (2-1) in their last two Premier League matches, Newcastle United will look to extend their hot streak against Tottenham. The consolidation of confidence, optimism and the arrival of quality signings has provided the Magpies with a major boost ahead of tomorrow’s match.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are a bit nervous for this clash as they will have to field a weaker lineup due to Harry Kane and Dele Alli being sidelined with long-term ankle and hamstring injuries. Despite not having two key players, Tottenham continue to boast a stronger roster than Newcastle and they will be considered favorites to win this match over the hot team from the cold North.
Back-to-back Upsets for Newcastle?
Earlier this week, I made a bold prediction that Newcastle will defeat Tottenham tomorrow and my mind has not changed. Newcastle and Tottenham will look to attack each other from the opening whistle and both sets of supporters should expect an open match with plenty of gaps in midfield. After being ultra-defensive against Manchester United on January 2nd, Rafa Benitez has altered his tactics as he allowed his players to take the game to Chelsea and Manchester City.
This trend of playing fearless football is a risk, especially against major clubs, but it is a risk worth taking as it could reap big rewards. Tottenham will be cautious against Newcastle as they know the visitors will be confident on the ball. With Kane and Alli out of action, Tottenham will be heavily dependent on Christian Eriksen and Son Hueng-min.
Newcastle’s defenders must keep an eye on those two if they want to stay in this game. Both midfielders are superior passers and they can create plays for themselves, especially with dangerous strikes from distance. Tottenham’s back-line must be cautious of Salomon Rondon due to his frame, strength and precision in front of goal. The Venezuelan bullied Manchester City’s expensive back-line with ease and he could cause similar problems at Wembley Stadium.
Almiron Debut?
Finally, the question everyone has been waiting for – will Miguel Almiron make his debut for Newcastle tomorrow? No. Almiron has to complete the formalities of picking up his visa and that will not happen ahead of Saturday’s match. However, he will be available, and will likely start, against Wolverhampton on February 11th.
