The objective is crystal clear for Newcastle United on Saturday – win against Huddersfield Town.

With only one point from a possible nine from their last three matches this month, Newcastle must claim all three points against Huddersfield Town this Saturday. After going undefeated in November, Newcastle are on the verge of falling back into the relegation zone if they fail to defeat Huddersfield Town.

At the moment, the Magpies are three points above the drop zone, however, a victory for Huddersfield and positive results for Crystal Palace and Burnley would drag Newcastle down. Rafa Benitez must find a way to motivate his men to ensure they earn a crucial victory on the road. This match is a sleeper as far as television ratings are concerned, but here are a few reasons why this match is so important for Newcastle.

Huddersfield Town Are Struggling

Newcastle have a golden opportunity to dominate and win a match against a struggling Huddersfield Town. The Terriers have only scored ten goals this season and they have conceded a total of 27 goals. As a result, Huddersfield Town only have two victories and have lost on ten occasions.

Yes, Newcastle’s overall record (3-4-9) is not all that impressive either, but the Magpies boast more talent than Saturday’s opponent. Newcastle’s wingers must go all out in this match to feed Salomon Rondon with dangerous crosses that would expose Huddersfield’s weak back-line.

Anything less than three points should be viewed as a disappointment by the manager, players and supporters. Newcastle played against some quality opponents in recent weeks and they were competitive in two of those three matches, but the Toon must get the job done against Huddersfield to climb further away from the drop zone.

January Transfers

The match against Huddersfield Town, in particular, will not have a significant impact on how many signings the Magpies will make in January, but a negative result will not help their recruitment. Newcastle have a lot to prove and they must show prospective targets that they have sufficient quality to stay in the Top Flight next season. The best way to do that is to handle business by defeating inferior opponents and Newcastle must do that this weekend.

Takeover Impact

Last, but certainly not least, is our favorite topic of all time – the potential takeover of the club. Whether or not it happens in January is beyond anyone’s knowledge, however, as mentioned earlier, a loss could throw Newcastle back into the bottom three. Investors want to be confident that they are making the right investment and if the Magpies fail to win on Saturday it would not be a surprise to see Newcastle’s takeover delayed even further.
