We take a look back at Newcastle United’s loss yesterday to West Ham with FanSided’s Green Street Hammers.
Newcastle United dropped a major result yesterday to West Ham United, 3-0. After the loss, we spoke with FanSided’s official West Ham blog, Green Street Hammers, about the match and the future of the Premier League season for both sides.
Newcastle Toons: After scoring one goal in their last two matches, were you surprised by the goalscoring explosion yesterday, especially for Chicharito?
Green Street Hammers: I wasn’t surprised by the goal scoring as I predicted a 3-0 win for West Ham, but I am surprised by Chicharito scoring two. He hasn’t been much of a presence this season for West Ham, but he proved he still has what it takes to score when he is supported up top in a striker duo.
NT: Which Newcastle United players impressed you during the match?
GSH: I thought Salomon Rondon looked really good today. He was unlucky to not have one or even two in the match, but he is a bull moving forward and someone you can rely on to get goals on the board. I also thought Ayoze Perez was dangerous but just had a bad game today. He’ll shake that off and move on I’m sure of it.
NT: Last season, Newcastle United won the first fixture between these teams 3-0 before winning the second match 3-2. After winning the first matchup, how confident are you that West Ham can sweep the season series?
GSH: I’m confident with West Ham giving every team a game under Pellegrini. We have players who know how to attack and are looking more and more impressive with his coaching. I think It will be another physical match, but I have every bit of confidence for West Ham to take the season series against Newcastle.
NT: Now that you’ve seen Newcastle live for the first time this season. Where do you think the Magpies will end up on the final table?
GSH: Newcastle are a tough team. They play well-drilled football, are compact defensively, and can strike at any moment. You are leagues above the Huddersfield’s, Fulham’s, and Cardiff’s of this season, so I have no doubt you’ll finish around 13-15th in the table.
