A big win over Burnley extends Newcastle United’s streak to three straight victories.

Newcastle United did not let a lengthy international break ruin their momentum. They followed up a win on 11/10 with another victory yesterday, 2-1 over Burnley. An early own goal and a header from Ciaran Clark were enough for another Toon win.

Top Toons

Ki: The midfielder was able to control the tempo for Rafa Benitez’s men. He is cool and collected on the ball and didn’t waste many balls against Burnley.

Federico Fernandez: His deflected shot opened up the scoring for the visitors. He continued his breakout debut season with Newcastle.

Ciaran Clark: It was a great header from the defender that was the eventual match-winner for Newcastle United.

Mediocre Magpies

Martin Dubravka: He can’t be beaten by that type of header. Dubravka is usually very steady, but that could have been a crucial miscue.

Kenedy: He wasn’t in a good position to make an impact, so he didn’t.

Salomon Rondon: He did well in winning the ball, especially in the air, but he wasn’t able to do enough to get on the scoresheet.

Quick Kicks

-Matt Ritchie played well, including assisting on Clark’s goal, but his miss was an all-timer. It’s all fun and games looking back because Newcastle won, but imagine if they had been kept off the scoreboard!

-Speaking of close calls, Joselu came on and had an effort hit the woodwork. He was active in his substitute appearance.

-Fernandez has been such a revelation this season and last night’s win meant a little extra to the star defender. According to his tweet below, Fernandez has been without his father for a year.

-Newcastle United has some serious depth at center-back. We’ll have an article on this later this week.
