New rumors have sprung up regarding a potential takeover of Newcastle United, but the Magpies need to climb the table for offers to come through the door.
Here we go again, the most entertaining and frustrating soap opera related to the potential takeover of Newcastle United is back on Tyneside. Rumors from a wide range of sources have been reported since last winter, but things are starting to look serious now.
Just days after it was reported that a group of investors from Saudi Arabia were interested in making an offer for Newcastle, new reports are stating that some American businessmen are willing to meet Mike Ashley’s asking price of £300 million.
It has also been reported that these businessmen would be dedicated owners who would provide generous funds for Rafa Benitez to transform his side into a regular top six contender. The source who was interviewed by the Daily Mail – the newspaper that first broke the story – went on to say the following:
"They have the funding and see the potential. They see a sleeping giant and feel they cannot only have a real go at providing the success fans crave but also take Newcastle to the next level globally."
However…
While this news sounds amazing and gives supporters a major reason to smile and be optimistic for the future, there is a catch. Newcastle need to start winning matches and climb the table rather quickly in order to transform this interest from prospective investors into official bids for a takeover.
Newcastle are currently 19th in the table and are still pursuing their first victory of the season in the third week of October. This rough start does not look good in the eyes of investors. Ashley is demanding £300 million, but that is money wasted if the Magpies fall down to the second tier of English football next season. Investors need assurance that Newcastle will maintain their Top Flight status and the best form of assurance is positive results.
Fortunately for Newcastle, their schedule over the next two months is very favorable and the odds for the Magpies climbing into a mid-table position in the table are high. If Newcastle can handle business against Brighton this Saturday, the next few months could look good for the Toon.
