Newcastle United has some promising young players on the roster.

Every sports fan loves top players, but there’s always interest in the next big thing. While Newcastle United may not have potential world-class talent at every position of their reserve squad, there are some youngsters that you may want to keep an eye on.

Freddie Woodman

Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 21

If you are looking for one “can’t miss” young player at Newcastle United, you found him. Freddie Woodman has established himself as a star for England’s youth international side, winning the Golden Glove at the U-21 World Cup last summer. He is stuck behind veterans in goal for the Toon, but he will continue to gain experience on loan and doesn’t seem far away from competing for the top NUFC job.

Adam Armstrong

Position: Forward

Age: 21

Like Woodman, Armstrong has showcased his skills on the youth international level for England. once considered the crown jewel of NUFC’s youth system, his shine has waned a bit but still has promise. He had a remarkable loan stint with Coventry City back in 2015-16, bagging 20 goals, but the loan moves since then have had mixed results.

Victor Fernandez

Position: Winger

Age: 20

He signed with the Magpies last January and is probably the player with the fastest rising profile on this list. The Spanish winger has great skill on the ball and seems to be a player that Rafa Benitez personally targeted. He got the chance to train with the first team in Spain last March during their long break between matches. While it’s likely he goes on loan or plays with the reserves this season, it wouldn’t be a massive shock to see him sneak into some first team matches. As you can see in the highlights below, he is must-see TV.

Sean Longstaff

Position: Midfielder

Age: 20

A playmaker by nature, Longstaff had five assists on loan with Blackpool last season in League One. He also scored eight goals, the highest total of his young career. At 5’11”, he has good size and speed in the midfield and is the target of multiple clubs for a loan deal this season. His brother, Matthew, is also in the Newcastle system.
