The goalkeeper became a star after arriving at Newcastle United on loan.

Some players struggle to make an impact when they go out on loan. Martin Dubravka did not have that issue at Newcastle United. The goalkeeper became a hero to the Toon Army and will hopefully become a permanent member of the club.

Martin Dubravka’s arrival may not have seemed like a major acquisition, but it was important in almost every way for the second half of 2017-18. A clean sheet on his debut against Manchester United announced his talents, and the keeper would follow that up with further spectacular showings. With a permanent deal expected this summer, Newcastle should do all that they can to keep Martin Dubravka.

Martin Dubravka has truly impressed everyone on Tyneside with his performances this season. Dubravka’s frame and athleticism enabled him to make some big saves for Newcastle. What’s more impressive, however, is Dubravka’s composure and confidence playing against elite clubs. It is not easy for a foreign keeper to come to England and begin their top-flight experience with a clean sheet against Manchester United. The Slovakian international deserves a permanent contract and a starting role.

Nobody expected Dubravka to become the star he did after arriving in January. He made countless huge saves and established himself as a legitimate Premier League caliber goalkeeper. He’s tall and not afraid to throw his body into danger to knock away a cross or shot. It’s expected he will be the club’s first signing this summer, executing a purchase option on his loan. To me, it’s a no-brainer that they pick up that option and start him in goal when next season kicks off.
