Newcastle United’s future will again be discussed during the coming months. And discussed again. And again.

Newcastle United’s return to the Premier League this season brought plenty of positive reactions from the club’s fans, and excitement was certainly present off the pitch also. Club owner Mike Ashley stated that he desired to sell, and a new group looked set to makes dreams come true on Tyneside with a new chapter in the Magpies’ history.

Negotiations eventually broke down, but the summer could bring the takeover that the Toon Army have been hoping for. The Telegraph reported this past week that Ashley will be renewing his efforts to make a sale happen, and that avoiding relegation will be a major component to that taking place.

It is believed that Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners can still be involved with a new bid, and other potential investors could be considered as well.

Ashley was ultimately upset with talks between himself and Staveley’s side, going on to describe the attempts as a “waste of time”.

It is encouraging to see that the 53-year-old businessman is willing to again hear from PCP Capital Partners, as a final agreement was very close. Other groups being present could be a positive as well.

Ashley is more determined than ever to depart Tyneside. However, it will be on his terms.

One part of this scenario will be controlled by the team, and avoiding the drop is vital to ensuring that the Toon will have a new vision at the top.

Survive now, thrive later

Without even considering the takeover, Premier League safety is critical. Adding in a potential sale makes the rest of the season even more anxious for many fans.

Ashley wants a significant return from his 2007 investment, and he will not be able to make that type of money with a Championship side.
