The top five transfer needs for Newcastle United
By Durim Halimi
Aggressive midfielder
Ever since Benitez started playing Mohamed Diame and Jonjo Shelvey together in central midfield, Newcastle United have not lacked aggression. The Magpies have benefited from the aggressive play of Diame and Shelvey in midfield, so why would Newcastle need another aggressive midfielder?
The answer is simple: Diame is not a long-term option for Newcastle due to his age and lack of passing ability. The sole facilitator on the roster is Jonjo Shelvey and in order for Newcastle to elevate their status as a club, Shelvey will need more help.
This is where Aaron Mooy from Huddersfield Town comes into play. The Australian international has been in decent form this season with his newly-promoted club, and he would be a good addition to Newcastle’s midfield.
Like Shelvey, Mooy is a player with plenty of stamina as he fights for the ball defensively and orchestrates Huddersfield’s attack. In 30 matches this season, Mooy has four goals and three assists.
Huddersfield have been able to avoid the relegation zone for the majority of the season, but they have some difficult matches remaining. Approximately valued at 9 million euros, Mooy would be budget-friendly and the thought of playing for Benitez at a larger club could be intriguing.
