When it comes to player development, working talent through the academy and up to the first team is always important. Newcastle United will surely place a priority on those youngsters, but may find keeping Adam Armstrong this summer to be difficult considering his strong recent form.

The 21-year-old has been sensational since joining Blackburn Rovers in January, and he was voted to be February’s Player of the Month for the club.

Armstrong’s production has seen a unique trajectory, as he earned his Newcastle debut all the way back in 2014. A lifelong Toon fan, he was certainly “living the dream”.

His first loan spell at Coventry City only confirmed his potential, as the striker netted 20 goals for the Sky Blues during the 2015-16 term.

While stops at Barnsley and Bolton did not see those types of attacking numbers replicated, Armstrong is showing his quality once again now at Ewood Park.

What makes his situation so unique and so special is that Newcastle will certainly not want to see him depart. But, there is also a sense of reality that must be dealt with.

Armstrong will likely attract attention from various clubs in the next transfer period. If the Magpies do not think he will ever produce at the Premier League level, perhaps now is the time to facilitate one of those offers.

Adam Armstrong is in fine form on-loan with Blackburn, and that could ultimately end up taking him away from Newcastle United permanently.
