5) Henri Saivet – Sivasspor
Newcastle United boast significant competition in the midfield at the moment, and it can be difficult to gain a starting spot in the line-up on a consistent basis. Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame, Mikel Merino and Isaac Hayden are just some of the choices that Rafa Benitez has for central positions.
In that sense, one can understand the tough predicament for Henri Saivet at St. James’ Park. The 27-year-old has been loaned out twice since his signing in 2016, and has scored one Premier League goal (although it was a very clever free-kick against West Ham).
Saivet joined following several productive seasons with Bordeaux in France, and there is quite a bit to like about his abilities.
He controls the ball well and can be dangerous in the attack, as the Senegalese international provides excellent versatility in the middle of the line-up.
But the numbers are working against him, and Saivet just can’t seem to gain the needed opportunities to shine. United will likely decide to take offers for his services in the summer, and he is still young enough to make an impact somewhere.
Henri Saivet has the skills to be a starting midfielder. However, it does appear that he will gain that role for Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez.
