Reports: Newcastle United could sell Mitrovic in January
By Roy Emanuel
He does not appear to be involved in future plans.
Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez have seen their attack struggle in recent weeks, and their match at Burnley is a perfect example. With this thought in mind, it is somewhat surprising that the club could be looking to off-load a talented striker in January.
Reports this week suggest that Benitez is ready to move fan-favourite Aleksandar Mitrovic in the next transfer window, as the forward has not been utilised often in the current campaign. The Serbian international has scored only one Premier League goal in limited appearances for the Magpies.
Never that far from controversy, Mitrovic’s season was halted by an unfortunate moment in August. A three-match FA ban was enforced after violent conduct in Newcastle’s victory over West Ham United.
For his national side, the 23-year-old continues to shine and produce in the attack. It is in that sense that his lack of playing time becomes frustrating for the Toon Army.
Summer-signing Joselu is still adapting to his role in some respects, and his partnership with Ayoze Perez at the top of the line-up has brought little joy.
Mitrovic’s high work-rate and goalscoring instincts could certainly help a lifeless attack, and one must assume that Benitez is not able to fully trust him.
Unfortunately, this is probably the best time
If the decision is indeed already made to make a deal happen for the striker in the upcoming transfer period, it really is the ideal time.
Mitrovic has showcased excellent skill for his national side, previously been a force in the Magpies team and is still young.
On the open market, a decent transfer fee should definitely be secured for his services.
With new ownership on the horizon in the North East as well, it could be just one of many future changes.

Newcastle United and Aleksandar Mitrovic have enjoyed special moments together. However, it seems that the relationship is nearing an end sooner rather than later.
