A reunion in the North East?
Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez adding Joselu brought on another option at striker last week. But that is not the end of the Magpies’ summer transfer plans, and another forward could be one very familiar to the Toon Army.
Recent reports have linked Loic Remy with a move to Newcastle, as the Frenchman seeks out a new setting for the final year of his contract at Chelsea. The 30-year-old spent last term on loan at Crystal Palace, making little impact for the Eagles.
It feels like a lifetime ago that Remy was sending shockwaves through St. James’ Park, as his one season under Alan Pardew produced spectacular results.
26 Premier League appearances netted 14 goals in 2013-14, and fans would love to see similar numbers now in a campaign that has started out poorly.
But while the transfer would be a benefit to the Magpies, it would also be an important opportunity for the player at a crucial time in his footballing career.
The future is now
After the current season, Remy will be able to leave Chelsea on a free and continue on at another club. He does not appear to be a part of Antonio Conte’s plans with the Blues, and the best way to earn a new deal is to showcase his skills in the top flight.
Newcastle is a place where Remy would be comfortable and would know what to expect. He is still a fan favourite, and could ultimately spark a struggling attack.
His wages bring a concern, and it will be interesting to see if Benitez’s reported pursuit of fellow Chelsea loanee target Kenedy influences the final decision.
As per Premier League rules, Newcastle would not be able to add both on loan.

Newcastle United require more from their attack, and Loic Remy could be the answer. But the striker may need the Magpies just as much as they need him this year.
