After some ups and downs the last couple seasons, will Yoan Gouffran get a new contract from Newcastle United this summer?

Yoan Gouffran has been a member of Newcastle United since 2013. He has made over 100 appearances for the club, but at times has had his role reduced. After only making eight Premier League appearances last season, the French attacking midfielder played in 39 Championship matches this season.

He played mostly on the wing, but moved into the supporting striker role on a few occasions.

2016-17 stats: 39 league appearances, five goals.

Player Breakdown: Gouffran is at his best when featured on the wing, or in the supporting forward role. His impact is greatly diminished in the central midfield. He’s a quality finisher, and has the pace to push the attack forward. One of his best traits is his creativity to set up his shot, often flipping the ball to himself, or positioning a powerful strike off the volley.

Decision: Let him walk. Gouffran is definitely a quality player, but not good enough to extend him. He is 30 years old, and the position he occupies could use an upgrade. He will likely find his way back to a French club. He is an example of a necessary maneuver to open a spot, and some transfer funds.
