Fashion expert Naz Perez gives us some insight on Newcastle United’s style.
Look good, feel good. It is a common phrase meaning if you dress the part, you feel better and more confident about yourself. Newcastle United is feeling good, sitting top of the table in the Sky Bet Championship, but do they look the part? I was able to break it down with fashionista Naz Perez.
Naz Perez is an entertainment, fashion, and sports TV producer & host that’s worked for various media outlets such as The Style Network, E!, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Fashion News Live, and the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. Ms. Perez is currently producing ABC’s The Bachelor, The Bachelorette & Bachelor in Paradise. She lives in Los Angeles, California.
The main soccer fashion connection is obviously the kits. The soccer kit has developed into a popular look off the pitch in recent years. On the pitch, how do Newcastle United’s 2016-17 kits grade out?
The home kit gets a B. It’s a Newcastle United Classic. It gets a B because I’ve seen it before. But again, you can never go wrong with a classic or black and white.
The away kit gets a C. Purple and Orange aren’t the most flattering colors for players to wear and any team expecting their fans to spend money on this unflattering color combination is a little much.
The third kit gets an A+! I want to buy this kit right now and wear it. The light purple is beautiful, and matched with the white makes for a perfect crisp uniform that stands out and looks great in a full stadium. This one is also one of the only Newcastle kits that will look great on both men and women.
Another trend on Newcastle United is the bleached, blonde hair. DeAndre Yedlin and Yoan Gouffran are proudly wearing the new style. Naz explains, “DeAndre Yedlin never ceases to amaze us with his ever-changing hairstyles. He goes through more hairstyles than I go through underwear.” But is the look “cool” currently? “I think bleached blonde hair is 100 percent in style. And I think it’s safe to say Yeezus himself is following in Yedlin’s footsteps,” said Perez.
Rafa Benitez is the leader of Newcastle United. He’s also a leader in the fashion department according to Naz. “Rafa looks dapper and his look is almost a tad bit overdressed for the sidelines, but I’m a firm believer that you can never be too overdressed for anything. I love the lapel and tie size are perfect,” breaks down Perez. And a tip to the Spanish manager, “I would advise Rafa to have a tailor look at his sleeves, they look too big and ruining the rest of his outfit.”
Is there a Man Crush Monday candidate on Newcastle United’s roster? “Ayoze all the way,” reveals Naz. “He plays hard to get with his raw talent, matched with his inconsistency to please Newcastle fans, therefore making him Man Crush Monday status.”
