For one season, he was the best defender that the club had. To this day, we have many defensive woes that have not yet been answered. The loss of Debuchy to Arsenal was painful. His time at Arsenal was not as productive as it was at Newcastle United, and he only made a few starts before being loaned to Bordeaux. This season, he has only made one appearance for Arsenal.
Despite his extremely short time at Newcastle United, the reason for Mathieu Debuchy for being on this list is that he was the last great defensive signing for Newcastle United. We can only hope that one day, Benitez will find someone who will make Newcastle United’s defense strong. The pieces are there, but it’s crucial to put it all together.
