Former Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark has had a slightly easier route to the Newcastle United first team than Grant Hanley.

His versatility does help as Clark has featured as a left-back when Paul Dummett has been rotated out of the squad – but it’s more likely that he will feature on the middle against Wolves.

Jamaal Lascelles has already played nine games this season and it’s likely that Rafa Benitez has thought about resting him before the weekend.

If he does that, it is likely that Clark will come back into the squad to shore up the heart of the defence.
