Newcastle United chased Grant Hanley hard in their bid to sign him from Blackburn Rovers – but the Scotland international has played just three times this campaign.

He started the first league game of the season but was dropped until the win against Queens Park Rangers last Tuesday.

Hanley also featured against Cheltenham Town in the EFL Cup second round and so could make his fourth appearance of the season.

There were some initial concerns about his quality against Fulham, but a solid performance in the cup will see his stoke rise.
