Newcastle United haven’t had a fantastic history on the transfer market.

For every Demba Ba they have unearthed three Romain Amalfitano’s or worse – but the free transfer market is attractive, which explains why the club can’t stay away.

Owner Mike Ashley has largely stayed clear of bringing in unattached players during the last couple of seasons, and has definitely stuck to a transfer plan for the 2015/2016 campaign – for better or worse.
