Siem de Jong would be a complete curveball appointment, and not one that is likely to happen.
In De Jong’s defence, he was appointed captain of Ajax in 2012 and lead them to victory against Manchester City in the Champions League. He has also won domestic honours with the Amsterdam giants, and knows about leadership.
However, his diminished role at Newcastle United looks likely to block any appointment.
