Newcastle United came away with a nervy win against Lillestrom during their La Manga training camp.

Goals from Georginio Wijanldum and winger Rolando Aarons handed the Magpies the win, while their Norwegian opponents equalised through Bassel Jradi.

The game started brightly for the St. James’ Park side, as Spaniard Ayoze Perez slipped in Wijnaldum – who rounded the goalkeeper to score. However, a defensive error allowed Jradi to level the scores.

However, Aarons’ delightful flicked header gave Newcastle the win and rounded off a good cameo appearance for the youngster.

New signing Seydou Doumba managed 90 minutes, and may well be required to play against Stoke City in March – so this was a positive outing from the Ivory Coast international.

Youngster Jamie Sterry and Daniel Barlaser came on during the second to half, as head coach Steve McClaren ran the rule over some of the youngster members of the squad.
