10 of the best Newcastle academy graduates
Peter Beardsley
Peter Beardsley was one of the most unlikely looking footballers of all time, but he had magic in his toes.
After being released by Newcastle United as a teenager, he began his professional career with Carlisle United and scored 22 goals in 104 league games.
After two spells with the Vancouver Whitecaps and one with Manchester United, the Magpies resigned Beardsley – who then hit 61 goals in 147 appearances.
After selling him to Liverpool, the attacker moved back to Tyneside in 1993 and hit a further 47 goals in 129 games.
