Paul Robinson

Another young striker to fail to make it with Newcastle United, Paul Robinson achieved infamy when Ruud Gullit picked him over Alan Shearer to start against Sunderland.

Robinson actually moved to the Magpies from the Black Cats along with James Coppinger as part of a £500,000 deal – and made his debut against Aston Villa in 1999.

After Sir Bobby Robson took over from Gullit, who lost his job the day after picking the striker ahead of Shearer, Robinson only played 11 more times and moved to Wimbledon for £1.5m.
