Newcastle United handed two full Premier League debuts for their clash against Watford.

Rolando Aarons and Jamaal Lascelles started for the Magpies in the league for the first time, but things didn’t quiet go to plan for the Tyneside club.

Aarons was deployed in an unfamiliar wing-back role, while Lascelles was played as part of a three man defence alongside Fabricio Coloccini and Chancel Mbemba.

The result leaves the Tyneside club in the bottom three, and Newcastle missed a massive opportunity to advance up the table after Norwich City lost and Bournemouth and Sunderland shared a point at the Stadium of Light.

After the game, the BBC reported that Magpies head coach Steve McClaren said: “We started the game so well and looked in control. The two goals really killed us. It’s disappointing – we fought and came back. We threw everything at them – it wasn’t our day.”
