Rolando Aarons started his first Premier League game for Newcastle United in an unfamiliar wing-back position – a move that Steve McClaren felt forced to make due to the raft of injuries in the squad.

With Jack Colback, Vurnon Anita, Paul Dummett and Massadio Haïdara all out due to injury, Aarons had to step into the breach. With his attacking instincts culled, the youngster could not have the impact he wanted.
