Game five: Formation 4-4-2

Karl Darlow/Kevin Mbabu, Fabricio Coloccini, Jamaal Lascelles, Chancel Mbemba, Yoan Gouffran, Georginio Wijanldum, Moussa Sissoko, Florain Thauvin, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez

This was not a good start. Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum playing through the middle was always going to leave the team slightly defensively light, but a start like this was a disaster.

Within the opening five minutes Arsenal had scored once and hit the bar twice. Olivier Giroud volleyed in the rebound from his shot, while Aaron Ramsey hit the bar only minutes later.

Once Newcastle United settled into the game it was a more even affair, and Wijnaldum showed why he should be playing through the middle after a lung-busting run saw him play and give and go with Ayoze Perez that square him up one-on-one with Petr Cech. The Dutchman made no mistake and fired home the equaliser.

A terrible lapse of concentration led to Sissoko giving the ball away on the edge of the box, and after a series of neat passes Giroud found himself in a position to bury the ball in the back of the net. Bollocks.

MITROGOAL IS BACK!

What a finish from the big lad. After picking the ball up on the edge of the area, Mitrovic punished his way past one defender and smashed a goal past Cech’s near post – even topping it all with the Ride the Cat celebration. Lad.

Well knock me down and call me Alan, we’ve done it. After defending and hitting on the break, Siem de Jong landed the sucker punch.

Mitrovic has been awesome all match, and cracked a thunderous drive against the post – but never fear, Siem is here and he knocked in the rebound to take the match 3-2!
