4-2-3-1 has become the trendy formation of late, and it worked a treat for Newcastle United.

With Florian Thauvin coming in out wide, Kevin Mbabu replacing Paul Dummett and Siem de Jong taking up his place in behind Alexandar Mitrovic, it was a much changed XI.

Arsenal never really got going, and were restricted to half chances throughout the game. Georginio Wijnaldum opened the scoring for the Magpies after beating Petr Cech from distance, while De Jong added a second after powerfully shrugging off several of the Gunners’ defenders.

This is a game Newcastle will have to win after suffering defeat to West Bromwich Albion earlier in the week, and those two strikers will go a long way to helping Steve McLaren’s men do just that.
