The Gunners opened the scoring through Aaron Ramsey following a lightning quick counter-attack, and the Welshman rode a few challenges before planting a thunderbolt in the far right hand corner.

After a raft of changes that saw Georginio Wijanldum move to the middle, Siem de Jong come on and Florain Thauvin take charge of the left wing, the Magpies got their goal back. Mitrovic fed Perez who scored past Petr Cech from an acute angel.

Theo Walcott broke Toon hearts with a later winner after Olivier Giroud drilled a cross into the six yard area and the England international was the first to react.
